What is the best caregiver support group to participate in? Are they helpful?
There are many options when it comes to support groups. The environment you are looking for in a support group might change over time, similar to your caregiving journey. Look for what you need.
It is important to look for a place where you can learn, listen, and share. It’s comforting to learn from others that are on a similar journey. Hearing ways to navigate the flow of changes in caregiving can be helpful as well. The support and solutions we are searching for can change daily. Therefore, finding a safe space to share your intimate emotions and personal concerns can be a great resource. Healing often begins here.
Support groups don’t solve the issues at hand, but they support the feeling of togetherness, often softening the isolation and thoughts of being alone. We are all on a truly unique journey, however, in support groups we often take refuge in the common ground.
Lastly, if you are struggling to find the right support group for you, know it is okay to keep trying! Support can come in various forms. Sometimes even coffee with a friend, either in person or virtually, can be just as helpful.
