JUNIPER’s picks for top 5 dexterity apps
From apps to track your symptoms and meds to ones to get your fingers moving
Here are our picks for the best apps to help with any kind of dexterity issues. From apps to track your symptoms and medicine to apps which get your fingers moving, here are what we like about them:
Dexteria is a therapeutic motor skills app that helps exercise hands and fingers. It provides three types of exercise modes: Write It, Tap It and Pinch It. If the exercises are incorporated into daily practice, it can be a highly effective tool to help with fine motor skills, letter formation, and dexterity. While the app isn’t full of exciting games, I enjoyed the fun sound effects, timed tasks, and encouraging level completion tracking.
Jointfully helps you track and treat your arthritis by having you record movement and activity goals, medication, weight, mood, pain levels, and blood pressure. You can share the information with your doctor and set reminders for when to take your medication. It tracks your progress and provides tips for reducing arthritis pain. I found the video tutorials for physical therapy exercises extremely useful.
TRACK + REACT
Created by The Arthritis Foundation, this is my favorite app for arthritis. You fill in a chart with your current state of mind, activity level, sleep, mood and pain points and it lets you know whether you’re in a moderate, good or bad range for the day. It helps you understand how all of your inputs affect your pain and provides expert advice to improve your current state. It’s incredibly easy to use and charts everything you need to monitor and manage your behaviors and symptoms. The charts are informative, and I loved the graphs. You can also refer a friend!
ANGRY BIRDS 2
I really enjoy playing Angry Birds 2 with my grandson. Angry Birds 2 is similar to Angry Birds 1 in that you use a slingshot to catapult birds in hopes to crush pigs, however you move along a map and choose which bird is best for each task based on the bird cards collected. From a production quality and entertainment perspective, the game is excellent. You use a finger to activate a slingshot to hit the target. It’s a fun, interactive way to boost dexterity as you rotate what finger you use.
Next to Angry Birds, this is one of the greatest video game apps you should download. It’s so simple, yet so entertaining! You slice the fruits that jump onto your screen, ninja style. But watch out for those bombs! Use both index fingers for best range of finger motion. A great way to do your exercises as well as connect with your grandkids.
